Use this chart for the minute part of a duration. Divide minutes by 60, then add any whole hours. For 6 hours 45 minutes, the chart gives 0.75, so the total is 6.75 hours—not 6.45.
The full minute conversion chart
The two-decimal column is convenient for reading; the four-decimal column shows more precision. Neither is a payroll rounding policy. For a total, keep the original minutes and convert after adding them.

Reading the chart correctly
For 7 hours 20 minutes, find 20 in the minute column. Twenty divided by sixty is one third: 0.3333 to four decimal places. Add seven to get 7.3333 hours, or 7.33 to two places. A value of 7.20 decimal hours means 7 hours 12 minutes instead.
A minute value of 60 belongs in the whole-hour part: 2 hours 60 minutes is 3 hours. The calculator asks for 0–59 minutes to make that distinction explicit.
Why adding rounded numbers can be wrong
Three 20-minute entries total exactly 60 minutes. If you first round each entry to 0.33 hours and then add, the total becomes 0.99. Add the original minutes first to get exactly 1.00 hour. This matters even when every individual conversion appears reasonable.
The converter can also work backwards: multiply decimal hours by sixty and round the result to the nearest minute. For example, 7.45 × 60 = 447 minutes, which is 7 hours 27 minutes.
